Swimathon

If anyone had told me a few months ago that I could swim a mile, I would, quite simply, have not believed them.

The swimathon weekend came, and I arrived at the pool, a bundle of nerves, to participate in what has to be one of the worst experiences of my life.  No adjustments were made for nervous swimmers, (me), or people who could not climb out of the pool afterwards, (me) and to top it all, the coffee shop wasn't even open after the event!

It seemed to be a free for all, with sharks (agressive male swimmers intent on beating some kind of personal best and causing tsunamis) attacking right, left and centre.

It was horrible.  Well, it was horrible for me, no-one else seemed to mind, even the children just got on with it, and took it in their stride.  I couldn't wait to get out of there, - which is why, I DID IT IN RECORD TIME!  Cue certificate.......

The moral of the tale - well, I suppose it's that challenges are supposed to be difficult experiences, so grit your teeth (well, not literally if you're swimming), and get on with it.

Lovely medal and swimming cap too.

  1. Congratulations - I did 16 lengths once (years ago) then promptly fell over. My legs were all jelly. What challenge is next, I wonder.
